Traditional hotel at the Arlberg: experience tradition

Regional customs in the Monzabon

Lived traditions are part of your stay in our Hotel Monzabon from the very first to the very last minute of your holiday. Black-and-white photos in the corridors and in all rooms document Lech's eventful history. The traditional, alpine furnishing style and old recipes go hand in hand. Our traditional hotel at the Arlberg is aware of its history and that of its region, and presents it in a variety of ways.

Lech and the Walser

Lech am Arlberg can look back on a long and eventful history. First documented as the river "Licca" in the year 642, the Walser people settled on the grounds of today's Lech around 1300. Many of the Walser traditions are still practised today. Having been a village of mountain farmers for decades, even centuries, the rise of alpine skiing in the early 20th century resulted in an economic boom. Despite its touristic focus, the village managed to retain its traditional charm. Lech's museums, such as the Huber-Hus and the Wang-Hus, provide fascinating insights into the lifestyle of the time and present classic traditions from Vorarlberg.

Your traditional Austrian hotel

Naturally, lived traditions are part of our everyday hotel life, especially on a culinary level. Look forward to homemade delicacies after old recipes and typical seasonal dishes, such as Faschingskrapfen (jam-filled donuts eaten around carnival time), Funkaküchle (fried dough cushions) and the Sonntagszopf (sweet braided white loaf). All our employees wear Vorarlberg-costume-style dirndl dresses in the evening. Coloured Easter eggs and self-made Christmas cookies from recipes, which the great-grandmother already new, feel like home. Furthermore, we serve "Burakoscht" in the Jägerstube. What that is, you’d like to know? Visit us and find out!
